Kon tiki - Brand Design

Project title:

KON-TIKI
Creation of a brand identity for a mocktail bar

The KON-TIKI project was my final bachelor's exam, in which I developed the brand identity of a mocktail bar on the theme of the tropics. The goal was to create an immersive and dynamic concept reflecting a refreshing and ecological lifestyle based on mocktails.

Objectives :

- Create a complete brand identity, including logo, color palette, typography and graphic elements.

- Design visual media such as menus, flyers and various goodies.

- Establish a unique and engaging visual aesthetic to immerse customers in a tropical and lively atmosphere.

- Develop a sustainable and environmentally friendly brand concept.

Challenges and Solutions:

Challenge: Capture the essence of Polynesian culture without falling into stereotypes.
Solution: In-depth research and the use of tropical patterns to transmit the atmosphere in an authentic way.
Challenge: Differentiate the brand from traditional bars.
Solution: Focus on mocktails and sustainability to highlight a healthier and more environmentally friendly alternative.

Software used

  • Photoshop For image retouching and creating visuals inspired by Polynesian culture
  • Illustrator For the logo, iconology and graphic elements
  • Procreate App For drafts and graphic elements
  • InDesign For the layout of various media
  • Adobe XD For the website mockup

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME

KON-TIKI

The story of Kon-Tiki refers to a raft trip by the famous Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl in 1947. He built a balsa and reed raft to prove that the South Pacific islands could have been populated by migrants from South America.

The name “Kon-Tiki” comes from the Inca god of the sun.

Logo Design

For the logo, I was inspired by tiki signposts. As well as the raft of kon-tiki and the fauna and flora of Polynesia.

Symbolism: The logo incorporates visual elements representing the tropics and Polynesian culture, as well as drinks.

Color Palette: The choice of colors represents both the sea, the sand, the sunset, the fauna and flora of the tropics.

Typography: Typography brings together the Tiki universe and the tropical universe with 2 different fonts, one more square and the other rounder and handwritten.
